So, you want to become a travel agent and get rich. :-)
Well, you probably won't get rich selling travel, but if you love to travel and help other people plan their dream vacation, you can't beat being a travel agent.
I am an Independent Travel Agent and have been working with a terrific host agency (more about host agencies later) for about 10 years. People write me asking all sorts of questions so I thought I would answer a few of them here.
First, let me say that my remarks are based on things as they relate to residents of the United States. I am not familiar with conditions in other countries.
The first question to be answered is, do you want to become a travel agent, or do you want to have your own travel agency.
My wife, Elizabeth, has her own travel agency and I can tell you it is an expensive business to set up on your own. The latest figure I have heard for someone who is new to the business is around $50,000 per year for the first couple of years.
For now let's confine our discussion to talking about becoming a travel agent.
Next week we'll talk about whether you want to be an employee of or an Independent Travel Agent.
If you are in a hurry to get all the information NOW, look for the link to my become a travel agent website in the right hand column.
